I was shocked to hear the news about cooking superstar Paula Deen. The story is everywhere on line and on TV. Deen has admitted to using the “N” word and telling racist jokes etc. She also admitted to planning a wedding with African Americans basically their as slaves or waiters for white folks like what happened 150 years ago in the deep south.
Today the place where she had three very well watched TV shows “The Food Network” said they will not renew her contract at the end of June. She has been on the network since 2002 and has two sons whose programs air on the network too but their programs will continue. Deen has become a very rich lady who is worth around $17 million. She has written cook books and has a business in Georgia which is very successful.
Paula posted videos on You Tube today to say she is sorry to all her fans. And that the use of the “N” word is wrong and more. But the damage has been done and the “Food Network” said bye-bye to Paula. They had no choice. The backlash against her would have been huge. This is a sad story. But I guess we never really know about people do we? Folks may act one way in the public and another way when the public is not around. This is the case with Paula Deen.
I watch the “Food Network” all the time to pick up new ways to cook stuff. I watch “Diners, Drive In’s and Dives” all the time and I watch Paula’s shows and her sons too. Not knowing that Deen was using the “N” word and doing other racist things. So of course as a African American I am very disappointed in Paula. So I don’t blame “The Food Network” for firing Paula Deen. Maybe Paula needs to come on “Politics Nation” with Rev. Al Sharpton on MSNBC and say again to the African American how sorry she really is. Because I am very disappointed in her and I am sure many others feel the same. Gordon Curvey
