Seattle’s Nate Robinson Wins A Boring Dunk Contest

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

I just watched the NBA dunk contest during the NBA All-Star weekend on TNT. And I was VERY VERY disappointed in ALL the events and activities so far.

Hopefully the game wiil be better than the stuff I watched today. The 3 point shootout…..boring. Won by the Celtics Paul Pierce. The skills event……..boring. Won by Steve Nash. The D-League game……boring. And finally, the event that everyone looks forward to, the dunk contest……BORING.

It was won for the third time by Seattle’s own Nate Robinson. Sorry to knock my fellow Seattle native little Nate, but none of his dunks were super exciting. And the same goes for the other players in the dunk contest.

Nothing like Nate and Dwight Howard and Nate and Spud Webb etc. I was very very disappointed. As was Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Reggie Miller on TNT. The crowd was not excited. The judges were not excited. It was boring folks. Something has to be done to improve the contest.

One of the things that needs to happen is somehow getting King James, or Howard or other superstars who jump sky high to be in the contest. It has to happen.

Shaq had a idea that should have been taken up by the player. And it was a dunk off by Kobe (who was hurt), Howard, James, Vince Carter and Dwayne Wade and money from the tickets sold would go to the suffering people in Haiti. BUT all the players said no. That is a damn shame.

So we were made to watch the first boring dunk contest in years. We did not hear Kenny Smith and Barkley going off after a tremendous dunk. Their needs to be big changes for next year. Are you listening David Stern?
